A Coaching Approach

A critical collaboration skill. Being able to take a coaching approach to a conversation requires higher level communication skills and these are critical skills whether you lead people or not. A coaching approach can have a huge impact on another parties’ thinking and is a way you can add more value in your relationships as well as improve outcomes. In short, being able to take a coaching approach enables you to collaborate better and requires a particular mind-set, discipline and skill. In this “Lunch and Learn” we will explore what a coaching approach is, why it is so valuable, the critical skills and process that underpin a coaching conversation. During this session you will strengthen your game and take a coaching approach to your conversations when it is appropriate to do so.

Trust is Key

Never before in history have we had four generations working side by side in the workplace. In the next decade Generation Y will probably be the most dominant demographic in the work place. We cannot get away with looking at the world through our own generational lens and nor can we judge the behaviour of those from a different generation from our perspective. We need to understand, appreciate and flex! So what or who are the different generations? What influenced them to be the way they are and what are their fundamental traits? What are the key differences in the way the generations feel about work life balance? What motivates them? In this “Lunch and Learn” we develop our understanding of and appreciation for what each generation brings to the table and explore some practical ways to respond more effectively to people of a different generation to us!

The Art of Assertiveness

What does it mean to be assertive and how do I do it with finesse? Standing up for your rights and needs in such a way that you don’t violate the rights and needs of others is a delicate art – those who do it well seem to get what they want or need without damaging relationships. Those who don’t, often feel taken advantage of or resentful – this can lead to unhelpful passive aggressive behaviour. Those who do it too much can be seen as aggressive and inconsiderate of others, even selfish and arrogant. We will look at the psychology behind this skill and some practical techniques to help us to be more assertive when it matters.

Me & My Self Esteem

Healthy accurate self-esteem is the raw material of everything. We are not raised by perfect people and those people probably did not have perfect self-esteem as they were not raised perfectly by perfect people either. Most of us are doing the very best we can with the resources we have, but often things get in the way. Self-esteem can be one of those things and but many of us could do with building our self-esteem or at the very least nurturing it a little bit. Self – esteem is not a static thing, it can ebb and flow, it can be damaged and repaired – but we have to work at it. Constantly! In this “Lunch and Learn” we explore what it is and the relationship between self-esteem and confidence, we ask – what is the state of yours and how do we continuously build it?

Managing Conflict

Challenging conversations require courage, kindness and the ability to harness and resolve conflict for the greater good. Conflict is a natural part of relationships and life – the question is how you feel about it and how you handle it. Eliminating or reducing it is not only unhelpful as it papers over cracks, but it also reduces the possibility of creative abrasion and the opportunity to build richer, deeper, stronger, more productive relationships. How can we get more comfortable with conflict and skilled at navigating our way through it? If we can understand the science behind it and the different ways to manage it then we can move our challenging conversations forward in a positive and productive way.

Mobilise with Mentoring

This “Lunch and Learn” will give you insights into what mentoring really is, the difference between mentoring and coaching, the skills you need to mentor and how you can use it to gain great value whether you are a mentor or a mentee. Mentoring is a rewarding and powerful way for experienced leaders or technical experts to share their organisational knowledge and insights, technical know-how, experience and connections to help mentees develop their thinking, performance, network and their careers. The benefits to both parties are tangible and long lasting which goes on to make a significant impact on the organisation.
